Giving Thanks For Our Blessings

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

With Thanksgiving this week it is time to reflect on the past year and think of all that we are not only thankful for, but also the blessings that we are grateful for.

Thanksgiving and the ‘fall season’ is my favorite time of the year. It is a time of renewal, hope and reflection, when mother nature gives us a season of changes and spectacular colors of leaves on trees turning from green to magnificent hues of many different shades of reds, scarlet, yellows to name a few. The thrill of running thru the fallen leaves and driving thru the countryside to take in nature’s masterpiece of artwork that can almost be equated to a beautiful painting with the many palette of colors that we see along the winding country roads that we travel.

I am blessed this Thanksgiving, as I hope you are as well, to be spending time with family and friends. It is a time to for us to not only celebrate privately in our homes but to give thanks not just for our material blessings but also our freedom.

We are grateful for the prosperity and peace we enjoy living here in this wonderful country.

We also give thanks for the extraordinary young men and women in the military who are protecting our way of life and freedom overseas and here at home.

We also think back to when we first heard that sweet, soulful voice of Taylor Hicks and are thankful for the passion he has given us to embrace his music and also introducing us to many new and wonderful artists and their music, some of whom we might never have known about if it weren’t for Taylor. We are also grateful for the compassion and care Taylor has in his heart for those who are less fortunate and in need, especially children. He has instilled in us so many fine qualities that he himself has, about giving, sharing and kindness, and believing in yourself, following your dream and never giving up. I sometimes wonder if he truly realizes how he has changed and impacted so many lives.

For those of us who have had the opportunity to see a Taylor Hicks concert, we have witnessed those moments of care, compassion and giving when Taylor would reach out to someone, perhaps a child, either standing in the audience or sitting in a wheelchair and puts out his hand in comfort and friendship and hands them a harmonica that he has just played. Or taking the time to meet with children and talk to them about music and how they are doing in school or reading to them. This small gesture of giving to someone else makes both the ‘giver’ and receiver feel blessed.

I am thankful and blessed, as I am sure many are, that we have met so many wonderful people from around the country and had the opportunity to travel to many different cities and made many new friends, since we became fans/supporters of Taylor Hicks and his music. Our lives have changed in many ways both big and small in the past year. Let us give thanks for what we have and count our blessings.
Taylor has talked about giving back and being thankful. It is a good example to follow, for it is in the giving that we receive much more back in return. We can give in many ways both large and small, whether it is working in a soup kitchen, donating to a clothing drive, volunteering at a homeless shelter or simply assisting an elderly neighbor with
chores.

At this time of year we think of those who are in need and give help where it is needed in any small way that we can and to make someone’s life a little happier than it was the day before. We truly do have much to be thankful and for this we are blessed.

Thoughts about Thanksgiving

Who does not thank for little will not thank for much.
- Estonian proverb

Do not get tired of doing what is good. Don’t get discouraged and give up, for we will reap a harvest of blessing at the appropriate time.
-Galatians 6:9

Count your blessings. A grateful heart attracts more joy, love and prosperity.

My favorite time of year too! The changing leaves, the pumpkins on the front porches, the fall chill and frost. The time to shop for presents, doing for others, and planning for the rest of the year. Yes, it's my favorite time of year, too!

We do have so much to be thankful for - just drawing our next breathes are a gift! Our families, friends, freedoms are most important on our lists. My cups runs over in so many ways that it's impossible to list all the blessings in my life, not just with the past year, but for all the ones before!

Great message, Mary Ann! Happy Thanksgiving Day to everyone!
